The crest is designed in the form of a St. Andrew's Cross with an insignia in each of the four corners. The X at the centre, the first letter of the Greek word for Christ, is a traditional symbol for Christ. Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28-30. The oval shape of the United Church Crest is derived from the outline of a fish, a symbol of identity by early Christians. The initials of the words Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour spell the Greek word for fish.

Decorating a tree for Christmas is a well established tradition. Come to Olds for the Festival of Trees each December. Historically, a star is used on Christmas trees to signify the Star of Bethlehem from the Nativity. A nativity scene, or crèche, is a depiction of the birth of Jesus as described in the gospels of Matthew and Luke. Christmas is God's way of saying I love you.
We decorate the church sanctuary for Christmas and celebrate this wonderful season together. Knowing how to make a Christmas wreath can be a fun Christmas craft for the entire church community. Chi Rho, is an ancient Catholic symbol which are visually similar to the first two letters of the Greek word for Christ. Candles and fir greenery are always beautiful at this time of year.
A beautiful blanket of snow covers the grounds at the Olds United Church. The entrance to the sanctuary welcomes all, as well as providing an opportunity for parishoners to donate to the Mountain View Food Bank. Church members also volunteer to decorate the pulpit at the front of the church. One of our rooms offers a place for people to just come in, relax, visit, and worship.
The nativity scene decorates the front of the church. What a beautiful tribute to the Christmas season and a warm and inviting front of our sanctuary. The Christmas tree is a symbol of love and everlasting life. Other decorations include a poinsettia, more evergreen, and holly and berries.
Another Christmas tree decorates the United Church in Olds. A hand-crafted quilted hanging depicting home and nature. This tree is dedicated to providing monetary gifts, food and toys for those less fortunate. A cross in this simple form is known as the Latin cross or crux ordinaria representing the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
